About Cape Breton University

Cape Breton University is a public institution founded in 1951 as Xavier Junior College. It is nestled in the heart of Cape Breton Island in Sydney, Nova Scotia. CBU is one of Canada’s youngest yet most ambitious universities in the country. Currently, it's home to approximately 5,500 students. Course Eligibility Selection Process
Bachelor of Business Administration Grade 12/high school completion or equivalent. Applicants should meet CBU’s subject and English-language requirements. Admission is generally determined through academic qualifications, prerequisite subjects, English proficiency and document verification. No separate entrance test is generally required.
Bachelor of Arts Completion of Grade 12/high school or equivalent with required academic subjects. International students must meet CBU’s English-language proficiency requirements. Admission is generally based on academic qualifications, required documents and English proficiency. No standard entrance examination is normally required.
Bachelor of Arts and Community Studies Grade 12 or equivalent qualification with the required academic background. International applicants need proof of English proficiency. CBU reviews academic transcripts, English proficiency and application documents. Eligible applicants are considered for admission based on their academic credentials.
Bachelor of Arts and Science in Environment High school/Grade 12 or equivalent, normally including appropriate science or mathematics preparation. English-language proficiency is required for international applicants. Selection is primarily based on academic performance, prerequisite subjects, English proficiency and submitted application documents.
Bachelor of Engineering (Transfer Diploma 2+2 Yrs) High school/Grade 12 or equivalent with appropriate mathematics, physics and other required science preparation. English proficiency is required. Successful students complete the applicable CBU engineering-transfer requirements before progressing to the next stage.

English proficiency may be required. CBU evaluates the applicant’s previous qualification, academic transcripts, prerequisites and English-language proficiency before granting admission.
