About Druk Padma Karpo School
The main campus of the school is situated in Shey, the ancient capital of Ladakh, approximately a thirty-minute drive along the Indus Valley from the main town of Leh. A branch campus was established in Khachey in April 2010, further extending the school’s reach to students in remote areas. At the school, students receive a well-rounded education that includes Bothi (the local language), English, and Hindi, alongside science, social studies, creative arts, and sports. Beyond academics, they are encouraged to develop essential life and livelihood skills such as teamwork, communication, leadership, and problem-solving through a variety of formal lessons and co-curricular activities. Locally known as Druk Padma Karpo School—with Padma Karpo meaning White Lotus in Bothi—the institution is named in honor of Mipham Pema Karpo (1527–1592), a revered scholar and spiritual luminary. This remarkable initiative is administered by the Druk Padma Karpo Education Society, a local non-profit organization, and supported by Live to Love, the Drukpa Trust (UK charity no. 1178756 under the patronage of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama), the Drukpa Charitable Foundation (USA, 501(c)(3) organization), and Drukpa Humanitaire (France). To foster a sense of community and healthy competition, the school is organized into four houses — Courage, Wisdom, Unity, and Harmony.
