About North East Christian University
Three years after Asom Assam came under British rule, the Baptist Missionary Society also known as the English Baptists, through the Serampore Mission, established a school in Guwahati in 1826. This was soon followed by the opening of schools in Cherrapunji, Mawsmai, and Mawmluh, marking the early development of Khasi literature. In 1836, two American missionary couples arrived in Sadiya and later moved into the hills. Over time, missionaries from various nations and denominations established numerous schools and eventually colleges across the North East, laying a strong foundation for education in the region. 1394
