About South Asian University
The idea of establishing the South Asian University was proposed at the 13th SAARC Summit in Dhaka in 2005, aiming to create a shared Centre of Excellence for all SAARC nations. The vision was to pool resources and offer world-class education, research opportunities, and professional faculty to students from across the region. Prof. Gowher Rizvi from Bangladesh developed the Concept Paper after extensive consultations with SAARC countries. The proposal received unanimous support, leading to the signing of the inter-ministerial Agreement for the establishment of the university on 4 April 2007 during the 14th SAARC Summit in New Delhi. 1583
