About Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University
Guru Angad Dev Ji, born as Bhai Lehna on 31 March 1504 in Harike, was the second of the ten Sikh Gurus. Born into a Hindu Khatri family, he worked as a priest and religious teacher before meeting Guru Nanak and becoming his disciple. Guru Nanak appointed him as his successor, giving him the name Angad. As Sikh Guru, he led the community after Guru Nanaks death in 1539, formalized the Gurmukhi script, and began compiling Guru Nanak’s hymns while contributing 62 or 63 hymns of his own. He chose Amar Das as the third Guru, emphasizing merit and devotion over familial ties, leaving a lasting legacy in Sikhism.
