About Dr. B.R.Ambedkar Open University
Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University, initially established as Andhra Pradesh Open University on 26 August 1982, was renamed in 1991 to honor Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. It was the first open university in India, providing higher education opportunities to all sections of society, including housewives, farmers, labourers, and service personnel. All programmes are recognized by the UGC. With a motto of Education for All, the University operates through 213 study centres across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, including regional coordination centres and exclusive centres for women and prison inmates. Over more than three decades, it has earned a prestigious reputation for promoting inclusive education and skill development through distance learning. 1733
