About Kerala University of Fisheries & Ocean Studies
Kerala, known as Gods own country, has a 590 km coastline, 44 rivers and countless waterbodies that support rich ecological diversity and livelihoods. Its coastal and inland waters host numerous species of fish, invertebrates, plants and algae across diverse habitats. This aquatic wealth sustains more than 10 lakh fisherfolk and supports activities such as commercial fishing, aquaculture, tourism, education and recreation. With the states growing population, diverse culture and expanding economy, the demand on marine and freshwater resources is increasing. As a result, managing these vital resources has become more complex and requires sustainable efforts to protect biodiversity and ensure long term benefits for communities that depend on it. 1654
