About Gokhale Institute of Politics & Economics
The Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (GIPE), Pune, established in 1930 by the Servants of India Society, is Indias oldest research and training institute in Economics. Founded in the legacy of Gopal Krishna Gokhale, the Institute is dedicated to high-quality research on India’s socio-economic issues and to developing informed leadership for the nation. Over the decades, GIPE has built a strong reputation for rigorous empirical and analytical research. It is registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, and the Bombay Public Trusts Act, 1950. In recognition of its academic excellence, GIPE was granted Deemed-to-be University status in 1993, strengthening its role as a premier centre for economic research and education. 1454
