IIM Mumbai to Open New Campus in Pune from 2026

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Mumbai is set to open a new campus in Pune, beginning operations in 2026. The campus will initially offer executive education, short-term training, and capacity-building programs, with a focus on research collaborations. This expansion is expected to strengthen Pune’s position as a premier education hub and provide professionals and students with better access to quality management training.

Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol hailed the initiative as a proud moment for Maharashtra, noting that the link between Mumbai—India’s financial capital—and Pune—an education and technology hub—will create a powerful “knowledge corridor.” This partnership, he said, will generate new opportunities for students and reinforce India’s standing in global management education.

IIM Mumbai Director Professor Manoj Kumar Tiwari announced that the Pune centre will begin with executive and skill-building programs in 2026. He thanked Minister Mohol for his support and emphasized that the initiative aligns with India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

Why Pune?

Known as the “Oxford of the East,” Pune hosts top universities, research institutes, and a thriving industrial base. It is also home to numerous IT companies, startups, and R&D centres. Establishing a campus here will help IIM Mumbai connect education with real-world industry needs, fostering a strong knowledge ecosystem between Mumbai and Pune.

Short-term executive and skill-building courses to enhance career prospects.
